🌍 About AQI of My Location

We believe everyone deserves to know what they’re breathing — in plain numbers, plain language, and plain sight.

Our Mission

AQI of My Location was built to give anyone on Earth instant access to their real-time air quality — without a subscription, an app download, or technical knowledge. Air pollution is responsible for approximately 7 million premature deaths per year globally. Yet most people have no idea what the air around them contains.

We translate raw atmospheric data into decisions: Is it safe to jog right now? Which city has cleaner air? How bad is today compared to smoking? These are the questions that matter, and we answer them in seconds.

What We Offer

Our suite of free tools covers every angle of air quality understanding: a real-time AQI detector that works instantly from your browser, a PM2.5-to-cigarette-equivalent converter, an hourly forecast to find your cleanest outdoor window, a city-vs-city comparison engine, and a ZIP code lookup for anywhere in the world.

All tools use open-source data — primarily Open-Meteo’s atmospheric models and OpenStreetMap geocoding — so there are no paywalls, no API keys, and no data collection beyond what your browser shares with geolocation APIs you explicitly authorize.

Data Sources & Methodology

Open-Meteo Air Quality API: Provides global PM2.5, PM10, ozone, and US AQI estimates. Data is derived from the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) and updated hourly. Coverage: worldwide.

Nominatim / OpenStreetMap: Powers our geocoding for city and ZIP code lookups. No commercial API keys, open data, worldwide.

Berkeley Lab Cigarette Methodology: The cigarette equivalent formula is based on research by Dr. Richard Muller and Berkeley Lab. Formula: 22 µg/m³ of PM2.5 for 24 hours ≈ 1 cigarette. We extend this by adjusting for hours outdoors and activity level.

US EPA AQI Formula: All AQI calculations use the official piecewise linear interpolation formula published by the US Environmental Protection Agency, using 24-hour PM2.5 and PM10 breakpoints.

Privacy & No Tracking

We do not run advertising trackers. We do not sell your data. We do not store your location searches. The geolocation feature runs entirely in your browser — your coordinates are sent directly to Open-Meteo, never to our servers. Our analytics (if any) are aggregate and anonymized.

We follow all applicable privacy regulations including GDPR and India’s DPDP Act. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
